Out of the Atlantean's I've driven, 1111 is right up there as one of the best... If not the best. It just feels so "right". Visit my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevin_rowe/ |

Why it never dawned on me before I really don't know. How significant are those two in the MPTE history. Another interesting point is that 1236 used the Atlantean PDR chassis, whereas 1070 used the later AN68 version. Not sure when Leyland launched the Atlantean AN68, but the MPTE bought hundreds of them. I think 1296 (DKC 296L) was their first AN68, but that would've been scrapped ages ago. |

Well when you think that the single door atlanteans went all the way from 1236 - 1991 with a break taken for some early nationals being 1766-1775, and then 1001-1070 that tells you how many there was and also probably how hardy they were having that many. The Alexander bodied were the best ones by some way with the East Lancs ones being a little flimsy by comparison. The willowbrooks ones were probably the worst. |

According ti Liverpool Transport Vo5, AN68 chassis was new in 1972, with 1296 the first Atlantean AN68. My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/31135444@N02/ |

Likewise, I was a child the last time I rode one around Southport, just think at one time there may have been 5 open toppers in Southport including L*** (can't remember the number although L677 rings a bell) |
