A 30 minute service on all lines with a limited number of stations open, as follows: Southport, Birkdale, Formby, Waterloo, Sandhills, Liverpool Central, Liverpool South Parkway, Ormskirk, Maghull, Aintree, Kirkdale, Kirkby, New Brighton, Birkenhead North, Conway Park, James Street, West Kirby, Leasowe, Hooton, Bromborough, Rock Ferry and Birkenhead Central. More details.

Also, the late night trains are returning, in a similar fashion to last year with one limited stop journey to Southport and another to Hooton at 01.30. This year it is only for the two weekends prior to Christmas but both Friday and Saturday nights are served. More details.

Anyone got an idea what days the service operated in 2014.

RE: Merseyrail
This is a great step forward, hopefully other Train Operators follow suit

EDIT: Having just looked at the timetable it appears there will be no Trains to Chester or E-Port, Not exactly *All Lines* as Merseyrail are trying to state

I agree with Terence completely. It's great to see that a service with a good frequency will be provided on Boxing Day. Chester is a surprise as with all the shops I could see that service being very well used from all points of the network - although my guess on why there isn't a Chester service is that Chester station is managed by Arriva Trains Wales and not Merseyrail

Glad to see the night services returning too. Hopefully that can be introduced as something more permanent in the future

RE: Merseyrail
Great to see Merseyrail doing Boxing Day services - just a shame we can't have a bit of joined up thinking here on Merseyside as Northern aren't running on the City Lines.

You hit the nail on the head with regard Chester services , without Chester services it was easier to curtail the service to Hooton , rather than run to Ellesmere Port and probably also saves a unit somewhere in the mix. These services will probably be six car services as well all over the Merseyrail Electrics network.

I bet whomever gets the Franchise at renewal will have been told that services will operate on Boxing Day 2016.

Let's hope so! The City Lines in terms of frequency (certainly in the Evenings & Sundays) always seem like the poor relation to Merseyrail, so I hope something is sorted in this regard as well.

RE: Merseyrail
Evening drop down in frequency should be at about 2100 , not to sure about about Sundays on the |City Line .

RE: Merseyrail
When the Sunday service for most of the timetables was first set in stone there was no such thing as Sunday Shopping , Sunday shopping changed the service on the buses slowly but surely , now its time for the trains to follow suit .

30 minute services in the daytime on most of the routes is insufficient in about 5 out of 10 cases , Southport services should now be 15 minutely everyday including Sundays .
