Goodbye Diesel http://nw-sparks.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/...iesel.html Credit: NW Sparks Blog. Not completely the end of diesel on these lines - as mentioned the Blackpool service is continuing with diesel for the next few months and TPE's Newcastle service as well for the next few years. Also not mentioned is the Warrington Bank Quay service will be diesel until Northern can re-work the diagrams so that units can come off another route to service the Ellesmere Port branch. |

RE: Northern Rail
Yesterday was most definitely not the end of diesel! The airport's are down as 100% 319 work but not all of the Vic's and wigans will be worked by EMU's |

RE: Northern Rail
Probably a slow drip feed of 319's to other work as more drivers and sets become available. Who would have thought a decade ago that we would see Overhead wires through Huyton to Springs Branch and Earlestown. Some investment has been put into the Railways in the North West. |

Today the Airport line has 2 319's (319362 & 319363) - is this the first Sunday use of 319's at Northern. |

According to RailUK there's three diagrams on a Sunday on LIV-MIA - these being operated by 319361, 319363 and 319380 today. You are correct that this is the first Sunday where Class 319s have been used on Northern Rail services. Today also sees the introduction of the new National Rail timetable (available here) The latest 319/3 to arrive from Wolverton has been reported as 319371 |

RE: Northern Rail
Hello Electric http://nw-sparks.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/...ctric.html Credit: NW Sparks Blog. The only journey not operated by 319's today on the Airport line was the 0844 from Manchester Airport which was formed of a 4 car diesel eaded by a 142 (couldn't identify what the rear diesel unit was as it arrived at Rainhill at the same time as 319363 which I was catching towards Manchester). Caught 319363 both ways today - nice to see (and hear) the visual/announcements working (although for some reasons the announcements claimed the service was terminating at Piccadilly on the outward journey). Unfortunately on the return journey, I found the carriage nearest a very noisy compressor. Apart from this, very comfortable and relatively quiet (!) experience. Everything now set for their full passenger debut on the Wigan line stoppers tomorrow. |
