It’s been announced under the Cheshire and Cheshire West tender renewals by the local authority.
They clearly do want it as they put in a competitive tendor for it, and also won the extension for it

I think he means an extension of their Contract to run the 22 for a further period of time, rather than a route extension.

Al's YT10 XCK involved in RTC with a SEAT LEON on Saughall Massie Road this morning. No injuries reported. Bus seen being towed away.
