As you said, Merseyrail is comparable to C2C and we can also throw in Heathrow Express and even possibly London Overground as these mostly have their own tracks but all with vastly newer trains and more modern infrastructure. Merseyrail has still to compete with these and beat them to finish top two years running. I think we'll just agree to differ on this one!! |

The special timetables like for the Giants and Autumn Adhesion (South Wirral) are agreed with Merseytravel. I would say the vast majority of PPM failures come from the Chester and Southport line services , merseyrails two biggest earning lines. Southport services majority of the time have a big layover at Southport , but the limit stop is used to enable them to operate efficiently through the Sandhills - Liverpool Central core. Chester services have always been a bone of contention that the layover at Chester is so poor to be useless in anything but dry weather , any rain and the service hits the skids very quickly , with turnbacks at Hooton , Rock Ferry or Birkenhead Central or more likely these days limited skip stop running . The adhesion timetable adds an extra unit and doubles the Chester layover with consequent improvement in the overall running of the service. |

With engineering work affecting the line between Chester and Hooton , there is today a 15 minute service to Ellesmere Port , a bit of an enhancement on normal practice. |

Presumably the engineering works must be preventing them terminating trains at Hooton and leaving them there until it is time for the return working. |

Think by sending the unit down to Ellesmere port it keeps the trains in the correct order , keeping six units on the service. If the unit stayed at hooton it would mean some trains going crossing over into either pltfm 2 or 3 with the consequent risk of points failing as the train would be there for 30 minutes. |

One of Merseyrail's trains on a Hunts Cross to Southport service was the victim of a vandal attack (window smashed) sometime after 4pm today. Train was terminated on arrival at Bootle New Strand |
