Liverpool City Centre bus re-routing proposals
Liverpool City Centre bus re-routing proposals
Merseytravel has released details of proposed changes to bus routes in the City Centre to be introduced in January 2020. These changes are to coincide with the Council's City Centre Connectivity Scheme.

To see the before/after route changes, click menu on the commonplace website, then select the corridor of interest (e.g. Brownlow Hill)

Basically everything from London Road ‘north end’ routes and 76 will terminate at Queen Sq and presumably use the new ‘hub’

Everything from the Adelphi ‘south end’ will go direct to Liverpool One (75/80/82 all avoiding Renshaw St inbound,82CD,86D withdrawn).

Halton14 and 79C will go to Queen Sq via Pembroke Place and London Rd, avoiding Brownlow Hill

No Liverpool buses will serve any other point in the City..

The changes are forced because the road from St Johns Lane to Skelhorne Street will be closed completely , with the area pedestrianised .

So if Merseytravel wanted to run some buses into the business district off services from South Liverpool they would have two options use the roads behind Lime Street Station or The strand and Goree but dont forget these roads are getting narrowed under theCity Centre plans as well , this is a recipe for chaos i can see that .

If there was ever a misnomer it would be The Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme. In essence these proposals will withdraw bus services from large swathes of the city centre and force passengers - yes that's the word I still use - to walk a considerable distance after alighting from the main hubs, Liverpool One and Queen Square.

Recently, TfL considered closing Oxford Street in London to all bus traffic until it realised that it would simply cause gridlock in other nearby areas. Exactly the same thing will occur in Liverpool city centre. If the powers that be were really serious about reducing congestion and pollution it would introduce a congestion charge for motorists as exists in London and other cities around the world.

The belief that more people would take up cycling and walking is well-meaning but totally erroneous. If these proposals are implemented it will result in an increase in cars and heavily polluting diesel-engined taxis and a further decline in the number of people using buses.

The way it looks is there will only be the 10A that will carry on as normal as its not on the list for any changes.

It is a b****y stupid idea. Anyone trying to get to/from Lime Street or Central stations from the south end of the city is totally shafted, and faces a very very long walk to change between bus & train. A proposed shuttle bus between ONE & Queen Square will probably be as slow as walking. Presumably the scheme was devised by some buffoon who rarely, if ever, travels by bus, and thinks that buses should go where planners think it is convenient, rather than where passengers actually want to go. Far more passengers board 75 /80 /82 / 86 buses outside St. Johns Market than at Liverpool ONE bus station.

I totally agree with you. It would appear that these planners are intent on creating a North-South divide within their own city. Also, if these plans are implemented, most south-bound passengers will only be able to board at L1 which is far too small and has been an embarrassment of a bus station since the day it opened.

I have been reading the hundreds of comments on Merseytravel's own website and so far only found one positive one.
