When you put deckers on the 300 (when it's usually operated by Renown Volvos) it's only a matter of time before an overhanging tree branch cracks the bodywork on the upper deck. Arriva also removed those tree defender bars that the Palatines had when new. Bet they regret it now! |

RE: Arriva North West - Southport Depot
Although it's great for variety, the Palatines look and ride badly and let the Southport fleet down greatly in their presentation. Like the Birkenhead examples, they're past their sell-by date and should be restricted to school duties only. I'm not against allocations of double deckers on routes that get busy like the 300, but using these clapped-out buses is hardly doing them any favours. A real shame because the Southport fleet is in general looking excellent.

RE: Arriva North West - Southport Depot
I agree entirely 507009. What's worse, in my opinion of course, is the allocation of the step entrance deckers to the likes of the 375/385 and late duties. In the case of the 375/385, that's a long route and somewhat of a flagship for Southport surely? At every 30 minutes (with alternating routes) it's not great for wheelchair users on these routes to have to potentially wait 60 minutes for their bus. As for them gracing late duties, that just seems almost laughable. Particularly, when Pulsars sit in the depot of a night. I can't help but feel that provisions should be in place for bus exchanges in the event that the Palatines make it out onto lates. Something which doesn't appear to exist. |

RE: Arriva North West - Southport Depot
I would imagine the 375/85 is second only to the 47/48A in terms of importance to Southport. I'm not sure how busy the Wigan services are in the evenings, but a 60 minute service with single deckers does surprise me somewhat. Is it to lessen the "stress" on the B7s that they are rested during the evenings, or is there another reason? At Speke, the B7s saw very heavy use indeed with normally at least 23 of the fleet of 30 continuing in service into the evenings. Palatines on late duties is difficult to explain as you say, CX54.
