Northern (Arriva Rail North)

RE: Northern (Arriva Rail North)
Anything with 5 minutes at either end can not afford any delay enroute , you see what happens when the Merseyrail Chester service with 4 mins turnaround meets any delay you end up with cancellations or a skip stop service. |

RE: Northern (Arriva Rail North)
It also depends how much 'padding' there is in the timetable. A lot of Northern services have 5 minutes padding between the penultimate station and the final station. |

RE: Northern (Arriva Rail North)
It might not be a bad thing if the delay causes a rethink of this timetable - not only is there no service from Southport to Piccadilly or the airport, they all run via Atherton and Wigan-Bolton trains go from North Western so the connection will be at Hindley. There are also no trains from Blackpool to Victoria - and thus of course Salford Central. I can also see some pain for Ormskirk with the pattern being Colne-Preston-Ormskirk-Preston-Blackpool South-Preston-Colne. |

It's been known for about 6 years that Southport services were set to lose their Airport paths when TPE services started running on the Ordsall Chord. There's nothing Northern can do about it but they have said they'll look at hourly Alderley Edge-Southport services at the December 2019 recast if Wigan-Bolton gets wired and they are allowed to retain the 769s. TPE have said the North TPE services will go ahead at May 2018 regardless so Southport will likely lose it's Airport service whether or not there's a postponement in Northern services. If the Victoria-Preston goes to Blackpool instead then Stockport (a far busier station than Salford Central) doesn't get a direct Blackpool service. |

I was thinking in terms of commuter time services between the Fylde and Victoria, not re-routing one of the basic services. |

So does this mean that the only electric services to Blackpoo North will be from Liverpool? All time rail mileage travelled 327264 miles |

It's possible Northern could truncate some services at Preston to run an EMU shuttle between Preston and Blackpool and it's also possible they might choose to run some Manchester to Blackpool services via Chat Moss if they can get paths for them. |

The Chat Moss option could be quite tricky given all the extra services which are due to run along there from May. |

Only one extra train an hour - the Chester-Leeds, as Liverpool-Scarborough replaces Liverpool-MIA. It could be argued diverting existing Manchester-Blackpool is a better use than a new services. |

Indeed and Northern have a requirement to start an additional fast Manchester-Liverpool train at the December 2019 timetable change, which will include a Huyton call, so there should be a free slot still. |
