MAN admit problems with engines
Just released

'MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd has finally acknowledged that a number of coach and truck operators have experienced EGR cooler and/or high-pressure intercooler issues on early Euro 5 EGR D26 engines.

MAN says it “quickly put in place a comprehensive customer support programme for affected operators.”

As a result, now almost 300 D26 engines have been either repaired or replaced, free of charge and regardless of warranty status, “providing MAN maintenance recommendations and MAN service consumables have been used,” says the Swindon-headquartered firm in a statement.

MAN has also appointed a specialist at its Swindon headquarters to interpret the results of a nationwide oil analysis programme. This has allowed MAN to “expedite a five-stage action plan to ensure problems are identified as early as possible, thus minimising downtime for customers.”

The MAN dealer network, “which has responded superbly,” says the manufacturer, has received direct training to identify potential faults. As a result, “no customer has paid for an EGR cooler or high-pressure intercooler regardless of their warranty situation,” the statement continues.

As a result of these measures, MAN has significantly reduced the effect of this issue and is now “focused on ensuring that all affected vehicles are brought up to a quality-assured standard.”

It adds that potential MAN TopUsed customers can also be confident in any Euro 5 acquisition, given MAN’s “extremely robust pre-delivery process” to ensure vehicles are presented in a ‘good as new’ condition – including stringent engine checks.

MAN says that it is “totally committed” to supporting its customers and will continue to implement its action plan on affected D26 engines (including consequential damage) for five years from first registration – with a limit of 1,000,000km – providing that genuine MAN Parts, MAN Service consumables and MAN Maintenance guidelines are used.
