Apparently Speke depot are due there Enviro 400's in July does this mean that the examples for Southport can be Delivered before September? And if so would they be put into service before then?

wouldn't it make sense for southport to be done before speke after all the southport deckers are always breaking down. i say southport need them more than speke do at the current time

It would make more sense the other way to be honest.

The ones arriving at Speke are replacing Mylleniums to bring extra capacity to the 81/81A route, which has around 7-10 high schools along the service which meets the demand double deckers during the peak hours. The mylleniums are in a much more time-expired condition than the ALX400's, and aren't always the most reliable either, also the mylleniums should be seeing off some dennis darts from Green lane which are also aging.

Sadly the route will 100% cause similar problems to the buses used as it has done over the last few years or so. I'll say it time and time again, buses with more powerful engines designed to cope with more demanding routes need to be used instead of lightweight city buses designed for urban transport.

RE: New Buses for Arriva North West and Wales
I've seen the 81/81A peak time loads and they can be fairly hit and miss - some very busy runs, others fairly quiet. I think the present situation of a mixture of single and double deckers with the balance in favour of single deckers seems to work OK. Be that as it may, there are 21 B7TL/ALX400s at Speke and only 14 will be required to meet the 81/81A's PVR, so some will be able to help out on other Speke routes as well.

Priority should be given to improving the 75 and 80/80A services which are always standing loads in the rush hours. One route along Princes Avenue ought to be fully double decked, and it has been this way for years.

Spookily enough, I read last week that the Rhyl relaunch with its new Enviro400s could also be in July. Maybe Rhyl's will arrive in June ahead of an early July launch date?

I may be coming to Liverpool in May to ride a VLW in the Bootle area, probably on route 81, lest they eventually move to school routes once the Enviro400s come to Speke.

Speke's Enviro400s are replacing Myllenniums and with 21 of them at the depot, it is likely there won't be enough of them to see off the VLWs as well. Something else will be needed to replace those, if they are replaced at all.

In that case I may take a chance and visit neighbouring areas such as Kirkby and the Wirral, and ride a VLW on the same day as a new Enviro400 next year. I did south Liverpool & Runcorn in depth last year. Besides, if I can ride a VLW on route 81 I would enjoy the view more passing "VLA"s than Myllenniums in the opposite direction!
