Most, but not all, of Bootle's routes/vehicles are now showing real time information on the app. Can anybody explain why some vehicles are not? Does each bus have to be equipped with a certain piece of kit?

I thought each bus and linked ticket machine had its own SIM card which transmitted its GPS position over the cellular network every 15 seconds.

It is but sadly there are ways in which you can prevent the GPS from working, but continue to use the ticket machine by simply pulling the machine slightly forward out of the 'socket'.

GPS doesn't always work on the ticket machines either. A few buses are fitted with GPS in the machines, but as with technology it can break overtime.

Looking at the routes which have no real time its the same buses going back and forth.

The Arriva website has been revamped recently and gives a real-time map of all Arriva services in the UK. Great you might think until you access the site, click on the icon and realise that it shows the precise location of each vehicle about an hour earlier. What use is that? More teething troubles with new(ish) technology?

Strangely the app has real time information for the "501" between LSP - Liverpool Airport, even showing the bus moving despite that service being withdrawn for some time.

It looks like Arriva have upgraded their app. The feature I particularly like is that route numbers are shown on the map as this is extremely useful when waiting on a heavily-bused corridor and a convoy is heading your way.
