Taken from megabus website:
"From Monday 29th April all megabus.com services will pick up and drop off from John Dobson Street, in the coach layby outside Newcastle City Library, opposite the Laing Art Gallery."

Do Megabus normally the same type of Coach to each service?

It depends on bookings. Quite often an Elite-I can be followed an hour or so later by an Astromega or even a Panther on the next journey. There is no specific allocation of a set of coaches (I.e solid 65 plate Elite-I's) to any route.

Also doesn't matter where on paper the coach is based. Routes M35/M36 have a selection of Rugby and Plymouth based coaches and the M11 can throw up Scottish or Rugby based coaches. Most coaches spend a lot of time at depots which they're not actually allocated to such as Manchester's Hyde Road & the Gold Spec Astromega's at London's West Ham garage despite actually being allocated to Glasgow there's usually 2 or 3 of these dumped in there daily.

Today I saw a Megabus liveried decker running M11 to London going along the A50 with a trailer on the back - presumably for luggage. Is this something they've been doing long?

I have known them to tow trailers for a while. Maybe a couple of years or so. On what routes or with what coaches I couldn't tell you.

At least four or five years (they were in use whilst I was still at Stagecoach Manchester, and that was over three years ago) - they tend to be used on routes operated with double deck coaches due to their reduced luggage capacity.
