The Liverpool Echo reports that the keels were laid last week for the Western Ferries new builds Sound of Seil and Sound of Soay. The ships are being built in the construction hall.
The Ulysses has recently left the shipyard and has been replaced by the Jonathan Swift. Also in there is the Isle of Innisfree, Royal Daffodil and RFA Diligence (A132).
Cammell Laird have been awarded a contract by the Northern Ireland Government to build a new ferry. To operate between Strangford and Portaferry the new ferry will be able to carry 28 cars and 260 passengers, and will be delivered in August 2016. The ferry will replace the MV Strangford Ferry 186 tonnes which was built in 1969.
Ferries currently in dock at Cammell Lairds are Irish Ferries Jonathan Swift and Caledonian MacBrayne Clansman and Loch Portain
All the above have left the yard now apart from Loch portain. Vessels in at the moment are RFA Wave Ruler, RFA Fort Austin, ST Daniel Adamson which is nearing its full restoration, ST Kerne, IOMSPCO Manannan Calmac Loch Portain and Mersey Spirit. MT Brocklebank is in as well as far as im aware
Loch Portain has now left lairds and RFA Fort Austin is back in the birkenhead dock system. M/T brocklebank is back in ther albert dock complex
The keel will be laid this morning for the research vessel RSS Sir David Attenborough.
IPMSPC Mannannan arrived at Cammell Laird on Friday for her annual refit.
Announced in the Liverpool Echo today that Cammell Laird are to build a new ferry for Red Funnel Ferries who operate between Southampton and Cowes IOW.
