Government consultation into Manchester area services
RE: Government consultation into Manchester area services
TfN now proposing Option 'B+' which sees the proposed changes on the CLC Liverpool-Manchester line and Blackpool services going to the airport instead of Hazel Grove, with fewer TPE services going to the airport.

I'm not sure I agree with their workings out. They are saying only 294 passenger journeys impacted by Newcastle services terminating at Victoria under option B, that sounds like a significant underestimate to me.

David Hoggarth has said the next stage of this will be another public consultation starting in around mid-October. They are also supposed to be unveiling options for post-2022 building of platforms 15 and 16 at Piccadilly and options for redevelopment of Oxford Road station.

RE: Government consultation into Manchester area services
Over 70% of those expressing a preference for an option stated they wanted option C, with a note that there was strong support for additional Mid-Cheshire and Huddersfield line services. However, option C had strong opposition from certain groups in Southport and Hull and it would take the longest to implement. Therefore the task force have decided to implement 'B+'. There is a robbing a path off Peter to pay Paul in this revised option in that the CLC Liverpool-Manchester line will lose an hourly stopping path in to Oxford Road in favour of the Southport line getting it.
