St Helens definitely needs a fleet upgrade. The newest vehicles at Jackson Street are the Enviro 400s which are now just over 10 years old.

Another pic has surfaced of the 'METRO' Electroliner at the Wrightbus factory, and in the comments, it mentions 50 are on order, for Tranche 1 although whether for St Helens or Wirral isn't known. Funding for another 50 electric buses had been approved a while back so presumably it's these....

I read online somewhere yesterday than Glider are starting trials in Liverpool next month to see if the buses are suitable

Not sure if true or which operator is running the trial

I think around September 2027 for the franchises including Liverpool and Sefton......unknown what happening with Runcorn Halton though

COMPULSORY PURCHASE OF LAND IN LIVERPOOL CITY REGION

Notice is hereby given that Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive has made the above Order under section 10(3) of the Transport Act 1968. It is about to submit this order to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation, and if confirmed, the order will authorise Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive to purchase compulsorily the land described below for the purpose of bus franchising across the region in pursuance of their business to provide passenger transport services.

A copy of the order and of the accompanying map may be seen at all reasonable hours at the offices of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority at No 1 Mann Island, Liverpool, L3 1BP.

Any objection to the order must be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Transport, National Transport Casework Team, Po Box 1393, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE99 5FQ or NATIONALCASEWORK@dft.gov.uk before 13 October 2025 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector’s address and interests in the land. In submitting an objection, it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed to the Acquiring Authority and/or Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to enable your objection to be considered. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with your name and address removed, and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.

DESCRIPTION OF LAND
The acquisition of seven existing bus depots at Speke, St Helens, Birkenhead, Bootle, Old Swan, Southport and Gillmoss plus parcels of adjacent land for future expansion of the depot sites at Speke and Birkenhead.

Presume any announcements on the winning bidders can't be too far off now....I believe bids closed in early September.
