Its technically two routes to comply with drivers hours regulations requiring vehicle to have tachographs over a certain distance .
Liverpool to Southport is entirely with the metro sphere
Southport to Preston would be cross border permit service .

Maybe that X2 liverpool - Southport would fall under one of the metro areas ( North liverpool / Southport ) and be renumbered .

I wonder if the X2 would work as a service in between the 47s maybe extend it to Crossens like the 47s do if Stagecoach get to keep the Lancashire section of the X2.

The Southport to Liverpool section may become part of the Sefton Franchise and operate from Southport depot. It is more likely to continue to operate as a cross border service from Preston to Liverpool operated by Stagecoach North West, though.
