Wonder who will be awarded the contract for the Christmas day bus services this time? Last year it was split between Ace Travel and Stagecoach.

Arriva have listed their details for Christmas/New Year services in the North West:

Wow! If I've read this correctly, Arriva are putting on an almost full service for Boxing Day and New Year's Day in the Merseyside area, albeit with an early evening finish. This must surely be the most comprehensive bus service for the festive period since Deregulation. It would seem that Arriva management have recognised that there is a demand for bus services on one of the busiest shopping days of the year and responded accordingly. Unfortunately, there are certain areas that will not be served such as Formby and Maghull.

I wonder if Stagecoach intend to follow suit and if Merseytravel will fill in the gaps?

Formby will be served by the 47, Barney. That route is running to a 30 minute timetable this Boxing Day and New Year's Day which is an improvement over the hourly service in recent years.

Otherwise, the Liverpool city centre routes appear to be similar to last year in terms of frequency.

I've just looked again at the services and, yes, you are correct the 47 is a 30 minute frequency. This is an honest question: how similar are these services to last year? Sad as I am, I used to keep hold of the Merseytravel booklet for the festive period to compare it with the following year but I haven't done so recently.

Also, I wonder if one depot will do all of the routes? From memory GL did the north Liverpool routes last year with Pulsars.

44 also runs to Formby. 47 only runs Boxing Day.

No 300 on either day, I see.

RE: Christmas services - St Helens Rider - 13/11/2014 13:21

Interesting to see in St Helens that the 32 is extended from St Helens to Sutton Manor (as per normal service). Usually on Boxing Day/New Years Day, the service only runs between St Helens and Clinkham Wood.
