There does seem to occasions when trying to source another unit for the Bidston - Wrexham service takes longer then normal , this is because not all units at Chester are passed for operating on the line .

RE: Arriva Trains Wales - cx04axy - 21/12/2014 16:27

Is it only a handful of 150's can operate?

RE: Arriva Trains Wales - wirralbus - 21/12/2014 20:14

The 150's i think of the arriva Trains Wales fleet yeah , but there isnt a big supply of them in North wales .

I think if a set suffers something major one has to be attached to a northbound 158 from the cardiff area.

1D11 0711 Crewe - Chester
1H82 0738 Chester - Man Picc
1D34 0950 Man Picc - Holyhead
1H89 1301 Holyhead - Man Picca
1D31 1650 Man Picc - Llandudno
1K96 1934 Llandudno - Crewe

I finally got round to having a ride on a loco hauled set today. I had intended doing this the first week of the new timetable, but confusion between myself, my wife and the alarm clock thwarted the previous attempt.

I travelled out from Chester on 1D34 to Holyhead and back on 1H89, which were formed of 67001, DVT 82308 and three coaches. The train was immaculate inside and out. A very pleasant change from the usual DMUs.

No there were plans to transfer the line to Merseyrail and electrify it. However Merseytravel estimated the cost to be £80 million pounds whilst Network Rail quoted £207 million.
The electrification is in Merseytravels 20 year plan.

RE: Arriva Trains Wales - wirralbus - 16/01/2015 23:10

Reckon the cost is somewhere nearer to the Network Rail figure than Merseytravel's .

It wont get off the ground though unless Merseyrail gets some more stock.

does anyone know or heard if the 175's are been put into new livery like 158's or 150's. i was on 175 105 and its in desperate need of an upgrade or something disabled toilet is coming appart and the door wont close properly with many other faults (poor thing)

RE: Arriva Trains Wales - St Helens Rider - 09/02/2015 20:45

Have just read in Today's Railways UK that from May, most journeys on ATW's Llandudno - Manchester Piccadilly service will be extended to Manchester Airport thus eliminating the 50 minute layover time on Mayfield loop. Arrival into the Airport will be xx15 and departure xx37. So in both instances, the service will be followed by the Liverpool - Manchester Airport service. The pathing to/from Piccadilly on the Chat Moss line is so uneven (ie 2 services in 5 minutes then nothing for 55).

RE: Arriva Trains Wales - wirralbus - 11/02/2015 21:32

Unfortunately to alter the timetable to have a more even spread from Newton le Willows would require a lot more services to be tinkered with not just the Oxford Road / Piccadilly corridor , so until a major recast comes along we are left with that situation.
