Does anybody know the cause of the recent Elland fire and if anybody has been caught? Just had a Google and found this below

The cause of the fire was said to be an electrical fault with one of the ex-Arriva Yorkshire Plaxton Presidents

With the exception of the 757, Yorkshire Tiger are pulling out of the Leeds area and closing their Kirkstall Road depot. The airport services (737, 747 and 757) will be moved to a new depot in Idle.

All other services in Leeds area, including the university services, have been removed from their website. The services have been cancelled on VOSA with dates of between 10-12 June with others already cancelled or on 4 June.

Going off VOSA, the following services will transfer onto the following operators:
  • 38: Wortley-Gledow -> First/Connexionsbuses (Harrogate Coach Travel) (13 June)
  • 59: Leeds-Cross Green -> First (13 June)
  • 60A: Leeds-Pudsey -> First (13 June)
  • 61/61A: Leeds-St James Hospital-Hunslet-South Leeds Stadium -> First (13 June)
  • 75/75A/76: Middleton circulars -> Arriva (30 May)
  • 80: Old Farnley-Ganners Hill -> Squarepeg (13 June)
  • 781: Leeds-Otley -> LOT (Ladies Only Travel) (6 June)
  • X63: Leeds-Cross Green -> First (13 June - numbered 63)

With Yorkshire Rider being less of an independent now that it is fully owned by Arriva, I guess some streamlining of services was inevitable. It may have been expensive for them to set up another depot in Leeds.

Could Transdev be a contender for the depot? It would expand their operations in Leeds

Someone on the West Yorkshire bus forum doubts it. I suggested this given that Transdev run buses into Leeds. However, he believed that as Transdev specialise mainly in quality interurban services, and a few local buses mostly in areas of their own like Harrogate, Keighley and Burnley they are unlikely to be interested in local low-cost operations like Yorkshire Tiger. Admittedly York is an exception.

I've come across some pics of Kirkstall Road depot and the owner says that the site will be demolished for regeneration.

Yorkshire Rider (formerly West Yorkshire PTE) is NOW part-off First West Yorkshire, and NOT Arriva.
