Last bus guarantee:

It's good to have, though you'd have thought this would be a national requirement.
It seems to assume that everyone intending to catch the last bus will be starting their journey from the bus station though.

Some welcome changes to the 5/5A/6:

in summary:
5 (Altrincham - Sale - Lymm - Warrington) - Hourly
Service is diverted to run direct between Lymm and Altrincham via the current Bee Network 279 route, bringing back direct quicker links between Warrington and Altrincham. This will reduce end to end journey times by around 40 minutes.
5A (Lymm - Warrington) - Hourly
Service is extended beyond Lymm to Sale Metrolink via the current 5 route via Partington, Carrington and Ashton-on-Mersey.
279 (Lymm - Altrincham) Withdrawn
280 (Dunham Massey - Altrincham)
Service extended via Warburton to Lymm Cross running HOURLY

Their wording:

"New service - Altrincham to Lymm via Dunham and Warburton, with hourly Bee Network service 280.
With these changes the Bee Network 279 will be withdrawn.
Additionally, under the new plans, Service 6 will no longer serve Cobbs Estate (Monday to Saturday). Customers in this area can utilise the regular Services 7 and 8 for travel to Warrington and Stockton Heath."

Does that mean they're talking about Diamond continuing to operate the 280 under Bee Network, to a revised route and timetable? If so, a bit strange they're announcing it before TfGM.

I think I've lost count how many times over the years how many times 5 has had a major route change, one of these days they will actually leave the route alone. Considering cutting the Sale-Altrincham part of the route that I can understand considering how often various Bee Network services run along part or the full route between Sale and Altrincham.

I think in fairness some of the changes were down to Warrington Coachways registering a rival service and the response to that, and then the response to WC ending operations.

The most recent change was down to Bee Network and the previous one was TfGM clutching at straws when Little Gem ceased trading.

I think the last one the operator planned was the Cat5 becoming X5 with a faster and more direct route.

RE: Warrington's Own Buses - Valandil - 14/08/2025 20:30

With the reductions to contracted services in Warrington taking place on 15th September (the new routes brought in a couple of years ago), it's a strange situation that there will be some changes to services in Warrington on 1st September then some more changes to other routes just a couple of weeks later.

EDIT: Here's a link to confirm the ending of Warrington's 24, as well as the other contracted services in Warrington, namely 10, 23, B29, 31(A), 33 and 47:

RE: Warrington's Own Buses - Valandil - 16/08/2025 11:05

New times from 1st September 2025 are now available on Warrington's website through the journey planner.
Service 6 is reduced again to almost nothing Monday to Friday, though there's a much better service on Saturdays.
No sign of the promised Sunday 5B though, but instead a 2-hourly service 5 to Altrincham, with rather a lot of layover in Altrincham.

The 47 is an interesting one as Warrington council were funding a limited Lymm via Latchford and Weaste Ln, that was extended to High Legh/Knutsford through Cheshire East funding, prior to getting BSIP funding.

It also looks like there's been limited services along Weaste Ln for a number of years, whether they extended into Cheshire East, or not. Have Warrington council now decided those aren't needed, or is there an alternative?
