The latest Rail Magazine had a piece about GWR being fined £1m for the death of a passenger who had been looking out of a door drop window a few years ago and she was killed by an overhanging tree branch. This surely is unfair to GWR who is not responsible for infrastructure. People had been looking out of such windows for decades without much problem (me included) and NR doesn’t seem to care about vegetation clearance these days!
I’ve noticed that in areas next to the railway that had a clear view even 5 or 10 years ago, they have been neglected and there are now so many trees growing there that that view has now disappeared.
