Since the last blog update there have been yet more contract changes resulting in further buses being hired in with some operators, due to the unexpected decision by Supertravel/Homes Hames Travel to end all of its stage services with immediate effect from 13/10/2011. Stagecoach Merseyside currently have a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) powered MAN EcoCity demonstrator on loan, which has seen use on route 10A (Liverpool City Centre – St Helens). Arriva NW&W is continuing to purchase more VDL SB200/Wright Pulsar 2s, the latest entering service over the last few days at Green Lane depot. 17 are reportedly due for route 15, numbers 3062-78, while Southport depot is expected to gain 12, numbers 3079-91 for route 49. Quite a few buses in the Arriva North West & Wales fleet are likely to be withdrawn very soon or at reallocated to other work/depots than they are at present. Over the weekend the Arriva depot in Skelmersdale finally closed with all services and buses reallocated to other Arriva depots, including those at Southport, Bootle and St Helens. Peoplesbus began operating routes 173 (Belle Vale – Sefton Park) & 174 (Belle Vale – Penny Lane/Allerton Library) today after a one week gap, replacing Supertravel who stopped running it last Sunday. Arriva NW&W have at the moment received at least five buses on loan (reportedly from Dawsons) with possibly sixth to cover for VDL SB200/Wright Pulsars that have been sent on loan over the summer to Arriva Malta.
