I ment are they fitted eith fareboxes so can work Preston town routes or not, so would be working 'country' routes such as services to or from Chorley or on the Fylde.

The first two of five Mellor Strata bodies Mercedes Benz Sprinters (LM18 UWV/W) have arrived for tendered services in the Ribble Valley. One is currently being used for driver familiarisation and it is hoped that both will be out in service next week.

RE: Rotala - Prestonbus
With the announcement that Rotala is selling its Wessex Connect operation to Stagecoach, along with nine vehicles, Simon Dunn, from Rotala, told me via email, that no decision has been made yet on where the rest of the Wessex fleet will be transferred to. So, it may be that something could, and I stress could, be moved to either Preston Bus, or DBNW.

There are no guarantees though that all the ex Wessex stock not going to Stagecoach will remain in the Rotala PLC fleet.

Just as an aside, the nine vehicles moving to Stagecoach from Wessex are eight Enviro200s and a sole Optare Solo (how appropriate!).

Mercedes/Mellor Strata 21204 (LM18UMZ) was badly damaged on Wednesday - its first day in service - when a lorry reversed in to it in Longridge. It will shortly be going back to Mellor for repair.

This was transferred from Atherton in 02/2019 in this state as all Atherton's school contract work passed to Finch of Wigan at that time, meaning all deckers there became redundant, although one currently remains at Eccles depot all the remainder have passed to Preston Bus between 01-03/19.

As some of these vehicles are quite old and therefore have limited life it is doubtful if Preston bus will do very much with them as most are as I understand it to be confined to school contracts, this influx along with saloons transferred also from Diamond and other deckers transferred when Wessex closed and from Hallmark are being used to replace native East Lancs bodied Tridents which are literally falling apart at 19 and 20 years old. A Streetdeck has also been on loan and as the decker fleet ages its possible Rotala may purchase newer stock secondhand and also buy a few new vehicles in, in the coming few years in order to upgrade the Preston decker fleet.

Says all you need to know about the issues they are having with deckers, relying on elderly time expired deckers for too long is now starting to effect them, even when the East Lancs ones have gone, then the Plaxton President and ALX400 bodied Tridents will need replacing quickly also as they are elderly as well.
