RE: Northern Rail
I remember one time when the unit was piggybacked on the Manchester Picc - Chester via Northwich service , so there is plenty of combinations of ways for the unit to arrive at chester.

Due to a fault on-board, The 14.57 Northern service to Blackpool North from Lime St was cancelled. What I don't understand is Ever Half hour you get a Service to Wigan, But the Every Hour? Blackpool Service, Which runs VIA Wigan, Is let to suffor. The train was a 150/1, And went on the 1657 to Blackpool North.

Simple, the normal Wigan service picks up a LOT more passengers (and I can tell you this as a regular user of the line) as it stops at every station. The Blackpool North only stops at Huyton before St Helens so, if that service is sacrificed, it leaves a lot less unhappy passengers!

RE: Northern Rail
Sometimes a Wigan stopper will get cancelled and replaced by a Blackpool North service stopping at all the stations that the Wigan service would stop at but and here is the caveat Network rail then have to be able to path the service between Wigan North Western and Euxton Junction on the double track section of line , this isnt always possible due to freight whose paths they aint going to disrupt because Network rail would have to pay out to them as well , its not as simple as it looks in Network rail control.

A landslip is causing disruption in the Garswood area.

Because of this, buses are replacing trains between Wigan North Western and St Helens Central, with journey times extended by up to 30 minutes.
