Merseytravel: Bus service Consultations

Bus companies in general are unhappy about this, what amounts to initiatives from Merseytravel being paid for by the operator.

Arriva have also deprived themselves of revenue on this service by extending the Merseyside zone to include Halton, reducing the day ticket cost by £1.

Add to this the inconvenience to passengers caused by changing and curtailing the route [going back years] and it's death by 1000 cuts. Some will remember the heyday of the Laser coaches going to Liverpool every 15 minutes [as X4, X5 and X6 services] and not picking up locals in Merseyside. Long gone!

Franchising could restore this level of service, though, with the transport authority deciding what is needed and taking the risk on patronage. Operators would just do as they were told, like in PTE days.

This could be considered as the operators getting in first and pruning the network before the LCR can get there teeth in properly , Arriva and Stagecoach are just by the looks of it going to keep there more profitable routes and anything marginal is going to find it hard to survive , dont be surprised if other routes in the LCR come under scrutiny very soon.
