RE: Merseyrail Rail Replacement Buses
Do the Rail replacement buses go back to their home depot when they have finished for the night or do they go to a depot nearest where the rail replacement is taking place? Thanks.

Had a brief look at what was on the Birkenhead/Liverpool rail replacements....nearly all lower numbered 48** from both Green Lane and Speke with 4497 also operating plus a handful of Laird Street hybrids, Speke's 4492 was on the Birkenhead North to Birkenhead Central shuttles with a couple of 48** and the Liverpool loop rail replacement saw Enviro400's 4594 and 4674 in use today.

Virgin contracted Warrington Buses to Runcorn and today 85 90 and 93 werenoted.
Northern had Arriva Speke operating to Hunts Cross and Warrington using 48xx hybrids.

All time rail mileage travelled 327264 miles

RE: Merseyrail Rail Replacement Buses
Had a day out with the camera between Freshfield & Hall Road to get some shots of the rail replacement vehicles in use....noted were the following....

Arriva 4428, 4432, 4501, 4518, 4524, 4563, 4565, 4568, 4571, 4634, 4649, 4650, 4672....all noted in service except 4649 which was parked up at Freshfield station.
Stagecoach 15563, 15564 & 15578 although I suspect these may have been doing the Formby to Southport express services, didn't see any of these south of Formby in the time I was out.

RE: Merseyrail Rail Replacement Buses
17 February should be interesting for what Rail Replacement Buses are out and who's operating them as on this day the whole Southport Line is closed with buses calling at all stations with replacement buses operating every 30mins from St Georges Hall.

24 February Replacements are running as normal from Liverpool St Georges Hall-Formby.

RE: Merseyrail Rail Replacement Buses
Had a brief look on Friday at what was out with the Formby/Sandhills closure.....Arriva doing the stopping service & Stagecoach doing the express service which called at Waterloo only....

Arriva 4565, 4571, 4502, 4517, 4509, 4576 (Freshfield standby)
Stagecoach 15589 http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmc1947/46460257964 , 15595, 15563, 15564 was on standby at Freshfield http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmc1947/46460258144 along with 18441 http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmc1947/46460257774 and in addition (as you'll see on the pic of 15564), Peoplesbus 0823 was also on standby at Freshfield

Was up the same way today but on a family day out, only thing noted was St Helen's 4620 on the Formby by pass with 'Rail Replacement' on the destination.....

The next closure is the line between Rock Ferry & Hooton from 2-22 March....presume Arriva & Stagecoach will feature once again....

I think the main reason for Stagecoach popping up for this closure is because it is a big closure. the Rock Ferry to Hooton one shouldn't be as big. The PVR would be 8 stoppers, plus 3 express (if buses had little layover and ran as if it were a normal bus service) but taking into account the fact they seem to give lots of layover, let's say 12 stoppers and 4 express. You are looking at around 22 buses I would say being used for the Formby run. All the road works meant extra buses were needed in case of delays, then add that a few of the stations aren't even close to normal buses to Liverpool.

This next phase closure has a lot more buses running very closely to the railway, there are a lot less opportunity for delays, the affected stations aren't really busy. The Express buses will be well utilised though with a LOT of Chester and Ellesmere Port commuters but that being said, there are normal buses which people may choose to use to save changing twice on the way.
