Also not forgetting that Birkenhead & District also ran a service between Liverpool & New Brighton which I think was just numbered 31.

The Evening service was indeed 131 even Sunday Evenings.

I do remember the 147 which was short lived as was the 146, the 147 went down Price Street, it went down Vittoria Street.
The 146 followed the 123/124 to Moreton Cross but didn't go via Ross Avenue, then around Sandbrook, as the 36 went direct down Hoylake Road & Upton Road.

The 45/45A went via Birket Avenue & Twickenham Drive rather than direct via Reeds Lane & Leasowe Road.

The 15 was short lived normally interworked with the 33, was replaced by diverting the 18 to Seacombe.

I left the Wirral in 1980 and didn't get back until 2004. Can someone fill in some gaps please? What happened to the 91/92 Oxton Circle and 90/94 North Circle. Also when I left the Liverpool-Heswall service was 418/419. What was the difference between the 417 and 419?

Also this service was one of, if not, the first MPTE Rapidrides, albeit Crosville operated. These were designated with the 4 prefix. Somewhere along the way the Rapidrides died away and the 4 prefix was used to designate cross-river and then Wirral services. Can anyone fill in the background on this?

The 418/419 were renumbered 471/472/473 when Arriva did the number chaning on the Wirral, this was so the former route 18 could be renumbered 418/419
Thanks and thanks to MTL0201 also

RE: List Of Bus Routes Wirral October 1986
In the end it made sense renumbering 417/418 to 471/472/413 as they followed the existing 472[with 417 diverting via Irby, 473 was added for School jorneeys to/from Neston].

Originally the 417/418 went via the M53 & Wallasey Tunnel to Liverpool as they were more an express route, before being rerouted via the Birkenhead Tunnel & the Flyovers to/from Borough Road, then ended up using the 472 route, the only difference being the extention to Barnston.

RE: List Of Bus Routes Wirral October 1986
I remember the launch of the 418/9 using ERGs. They were quickly replaced with ENLs and then DVGs. These were flagship routes that always got the newest vehicles and often experimental vehicles. ENL 861 and 863 were regulars and had some sort of uprated turbos - they sounded fantastic. A year or two later DVG 276 and 284 were the regulars. One of these two (can't remember which) had fully auto transmision - I think a first for Crosville. Another interesting regular on the 418 was CRG 103 which in the late 70s operated a 418 journey that left Heswall at about 8am, resplendent in National Express white livery but fully fitted for omo.
I'm going off topic as I'm adrift by about ten years so I'll shut up now.

For as short time early 80s Crosville also got PTE Fleetlines on hire from Laird Street, & were painted into Crosville livery, & a few were allocated to the 418/419.

RE: Old Bus Routes Wirral
By the 1977 timetable book which i've got the network was mostly unchanged however there were some changes

9/12/13/24/33/34/58/58C withdrawn

1 New Brighton-Charing Cross, extended to Charing Cross replacing the 12
4/5 Saughall Massie-Seacombe/Woodside, some journeys diverted to Woodside replacing the 13, also rerouted via Liscard, & the new Sandbrook Estate
10 New Brighton-Clatterbridge, service diverted to Clatterbridge replacing the 58/58C
11/11A New Brighton-New Ferry, both routes extended to New Ferry, 11A replacing the 9 to Liscard-Birkenhead North

Most of the Crosville works services were withdrawn only the C5/F1/F51 operated

RE: Old Bus Routes Wirral
At Deregulation the 18/18A didnt go all the way to Mill Park , that was left in the hands of the Merseytravel route from Mill Park to Arrowe Park Hospital. The commercial service was in the hands of Merseybus , but the original Merseytravel service was in the hands of crosville .

Think it's the 118/119 daytime journeys, not the 18/18A that didn't go to Mill Park, that happened because Merseybus didn't register the MPTE routes 17/18/19 so Merseytravel came in & registered a 118/119 Arrowe Park-Mill Park, but Merseybus ended up registering the 18/18A quite late after the 118/119 were registered, & the i remember the 118/119 cut to Bebington Oval-Arrowe Park.

216/217 was a similar scenario the service was registered quite late, but don't think Toppings were ready to operate the route, so Merseybus ended up running the route until Jan 87, when Toppings took over.

If anyone remembers bus changes couldn't be made from D-Reg until the end of Jan 87
