Returned home today having gone down to Kidderminster to collect 40106 for maintenance and staying overnight last night at Crewe LSL Depot.

DMU Event – cancelled

The decision has been made today to cancel this year’s DMU Event.

There will now be just one DMU in service over the weekend of the 7th/ 8th Nov and that will be the 117/122. 3 trips per day with one of these going to Heywood (stc).

With the deteriorating situation across the country it’s important that the railway complies with Gov’t guidance. We do not know where we will be in 10 days’ time, but all indications point to a worsening situation.

Events like Halloween and Santa attract mostly local people who will predominately be families or social bubbles (local event / local customers). The DMU Event would be different in that it would attract people from outside the area (local event / national customers). It is for this reason the 144 will also not be operating the replacement diagrams. It may be possible to slot the 144 in at some point in the future. We will try, but it won’t be in 2020.

Its better to be safe than sorry in these dark times for the preservation and enthusiast community.

Better times will be ahead and we can all enjoy our hobby at that point in time.

I would have thought trains from the 1950s would bring in more visitors than a 144 from the 1980s, which has only recently been withdrawn from mainline service.

i think that particular 144 is the joker in the pack having been fully refurbished to a high standard , much better than any other pacer in the preservation market.

You are thinking of 144012. The one currently at the ELR is 144009.
