Sin Bins - wirralbus - 06/09/2014 13:43

The former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been talking about the possibility of sin bins like in Rugby League being possibly introduced into football.

Wonder what you all think about that , would it work ?

10 minutes away from the match rather than a full red card for some offences , some offences would still warrant the instant dismissal red card though.

For a start I wouldn't listen to anything purple nose had to say, but anyway no I don't really agree as it still wouldn't iron out inconsistencies with referee's

Sin bins have been very successful in both rugby codes and the issues of inconsistent referees not really relevant except the impact of a mistake is surely lessened by 10 minutes in the bin rather than a red card and out of the game altogether?

Yes, but a mistake could also mean that a player is sent to the sin bin when he should have been sent off completely so it works both ways. Anyway, old purple nose is probably not serious and has probably come out with this idea just to get himself back in the news for a bit.

Don't care where idea comes from, it's worth a try.

Yes, putting opinions of the messenger aside, it certainly could be made to work. The idea itself is a good one and I'm all for the trialling of sin bins in football.

A task for the fourth official to take care of.

Another idea is the totting-up of fouls by a player and once they reach say four fouls they have 10 minutes in the bin/or are subbed.
