While in Scotland yesterday I came across a literally unique feature of the UK's canal system.

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, replacing a series of locks, but in a particularly breathtaking fashion.

I have to agree, the falkirk wheel is excellent. I belive it is one of only 2 boat lifts in Britain, the other one being the Anderton boat lift near Northwich (Cheshire) which is equally impressive and a fair bit older than the falkirk wheel.

For the people not so in with the Inland Waterways of this country what does both the Falkirk Wheel and the Anderton Boat lift connect .

Falkirk Wheel connects the Union Canal with the Forth and Clyde canal. The Anderton Boat Lift connects the River Weaver and Trent and Mersey Canal.
