There was no play today due to persistent rain at Headingley today.

James Anderson could do something odd in this test match he could overtake Fred Trueman's record of 308 Test Victims , fancy James Anderson though breaking that 308 victims on Yorkshire Soil , something that would upset some Yorkshire diehards especially as James's home county is Lancashire .

England have beaten New Zealand at Headingley by 247 runs .

England won the series by two matches to nil .

Swann getting the 9th Wicket of the New Zealand innings made a little bit of cricketing history , it was Swann's 10th wicket of the match and the last time that a spinner took that many wickets in an innings was Derek Underwood in 1972 , can any of us forumers remember him ?

England lost in the One Day Series 2-1 to New Zealand , one day cricket is not though one of England's favoured formats of the game.

In Other cricket news India beat South Africa in the first match in the ICC Champions Trophy at Cardiff. England's first match is a day night match against the old enemy Australia , the first of many battles between themselves in 2013 .

Day Two of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan v West Indies .

Pakistan in One Day Tournaments seem to run either hot or cold , today was one of there cold days , Pakistan scoring 170 in 48 overs , one cardinal sin in One day Matches is not to use the full allocation of overs up. West Indies in reply seemed to make heavy weather of such a low score to get and managed it eventually but only by 2 wickets and with 56 balls to spare , a higher target I fear and West indies may have lost this one .

Todays match is a One day Dress Rehersal for the Ashes Series .

RE: Cricket 2013 - wirralbus - 10/06/2013 19:13

West Indies Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has been banned for two games after claiming a catch he was found to have dropped on review .

Misbah-ul-haq was the batsman , he was originally given out by the on field umpire , the decision was sent to the third umpire who adjudicated that he had dropped the ball and the decision was reversed .

Danesh Ramdin will now miss the matches against India and South Africa . He was also fined all of his match fee .

He did plead Not Guilty and will have the right to an appeal .

Chris Broad, a member of the ICC's panel of match referees, adjudicated over Ramdin's case and said: "This is regarded as a serious offence as it is the responsibility of all players to act in the spirit of the game.

A Couple of matches to keep this updated for the Champions Trophy :

West Indies 233 for 9 (50 Overs)
India 236 for 2 (39.1 Overs ) Won by 8 Wkts.

New Zealand 243 for 8 (50 Overs)
Australia 51 for 2 (15 Overs) NO RESULT 1pt Each.

Australia are now literally fighting for there life in this tournament now .

There problems are not helped by an incident that happened in the early hours of Sunday morning between David Warner and Joe Root .

Australia left out David Warner from the New Zealand match and made him work today by making him 12th Man , but i fear he maybe sent back to Australia to await his punishment from Cricket Australia's hierachy there.

This tour of England by these Australians is turning into a nightmare for Australia as there Captain Michael Clarke is also seeking medical attention to a severe back problem in London as we speak.

RE: Cricket 2013 - wirralbus - 24/06/2013 05:20

Australia have sacked coach Mickey Arthur just 16 days before the start of the Ashes series against England.

The South African had faced criticism following poor performances and disciplinary issues within the Australia camp.

Cricket Australia will hold a news conference to "discuss the coaching structure of the Australian team".

Arthur, Australia's first oversees coach, succeeded Tim Nielsen in 2011 and had two years left on his contract.

The First Test between England and Austraila from Trent Bridge (Nottingham) starts on Thursday.

England have named there team of 13:
Alastair Cook (Essex, capt)
Joe Root (Yorkshire),
Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire),
Kevin Pietersen (Surrey),
Ian Bell (Warwickshire),
Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire),
Matt Prior (Sussex, wk),
Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire),
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire),
Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire),
Steven Finn (Middlesex),
James Anderson (Lancashire),
Graham Onions (Durham).

The chances are that Tim Bresnan and Graham Onions maybe the ones to miss out .

This is one of the grounds where the ball swings in the air and then a bit later on when the ball is roughened up a bit , the ball will reverse swing as well. It can be a right handful here .

Two remarkable days to open this Ashes series, including the highest ever total by an 11th batsman, achieved by a 19-year-old making his test début. Incredible stuff and let's hope it stays this competitive. Seeing England win at a canter just wouldn't seen right against the Aussies!

As usual, Test Match Special bringing it to life with their typical high standard of output. Still a stoutly British institution, one of a dying breed.
