simply put "no not yet" but vosa has a backlog atm for registrations etc

Never the less you would expect it to appear on VOSA over next few days given that it starts this weekend. If I remember rightly they never bothered to register it last autumn either.

A bus service does not have to be registered if:

- All passengers pay the same fare for their 'group' (ie. all adults pay £x, all children pay £x)
- The service has no stopping point under 15 miles (Preston is about 30 from Manchester, Preston to Blackpool around 15miles)
- The service runs for less than 6 consecutive weeks

This is then classed as an excursion and does not need to be registered as a local service

Arh thanks for clarifying.
So we shouldn't expect to see a registration anytime soon then lol

This red rocket service seems to be more and more like something that doesn't know what it wants to be.

If it's anything like in previous years then it will go flop rather than bang.

I've only just realised from reading the blog mentioned above that it will run during the week and not just at weekends. Is there really demand for a bus link between Preston and Manchester?

Stagecoach Lancashire used to run one between Blackpool and Manchester and despite mainly using coaches and offering £1 tickets via the Megabus site they didn't get full and Stagecoach decided to withdraw the service.

Well my only journey with a Megabus ticket has been on that service. The driver seemed surprised to see one but was happy that it was valid. I would have used National Express or TPE had I not been on a tight budget on that occasion. (NX had very cheap northbound fares but not very cheap southbound fares.)

If there's more than 20 miles between stops it doesn't have to be registered as a bus service. In fact with them not allowing free travel for over 60s pass holders it means they aren't planning to treat it as a bus service.

Just looked at this page: http://www.redrocketexpress.co.uk/xmas-buses/

Surely if they want to give themselves an edge over rail they'd run on Boxing Day with rail services not running despite many people wanting to get around for sales and sporting events.
