RE: HTL Buses - mr t - 15/04/2013 19:23

The 173 is extended to Liverpool City Centre next week, replacing the withdrawn route 183

RE: HTL Buses - buses7675 - 15/04/2013 20:57

Another route to learn now! lol

Interesting one that, PVR must be going up to 5 then for the 173/4 rather than 4 as at present!

Timetable is online already too!

Valid from 29th April 2013:

173/174 (Liverpool or Sefton Park - Belle Vale/Belle Vale - Allerton (Penny Lane) or Allerton Library)
One Route 173 bus each hour is extended to Liverpool city centre, along the route of the withdrawn Route 183.
The times are unchanged.
(Route 174 is unchanged.)

looking at the timetable you would do a long then a short

RE: HTL Buses - buses7675 - 16/04/2013 17:56

At the moment with the 173/174 they interwork such that in 2 hours you'll do a return trip on each and have a break so I guess now it'll work such that you do two normal 174s, a short 173 and a long 173 every 3 hours somehow - I'll need to suss that rota out properly!

Rare working noted earlier, TransBus Dart MPD DK04 SUH is on the Asda Shopper bus!

EDIT - This bus also later was one of the vehicles on the 196/147 evening service!

Do HTL have any intention of extending Merseytravel's 159 route along Sterrix Lane to cover for the loss of Arriva's 59-NETHERTON/BOOTLE service from 28 April??

It would probably be a bad idea to run it through the Marian Square as Arriva fiercely defend their territory (with higher fares), and there's the added problem of Avon Buses' 122 service (which also runs to Fazakerley Hospital).
A driver at Arriva Bootle reckons the 55-QUEEN SQUARE could run up Gorsey Lane to compensate for the withdrawal of the 59, but -he admits- it's early days.
It'll be interesting to find out what eventually happens....

I really do doubt that Arriva will amend anything to serve Sterrix Lane. After all, nothing has been amended to serve that area from the date that the 59 is withdrawn. In my opinion, there's no need for a bus to Bootle on Sterrix Lane - the 159 covers the Boundary Road section and the 52/52A/55 cover the Gorsey Lane section. The dead 59 is evidence of that.

True, but if you live on Sterrix Lane, how are you supposed to get to Bootle Strand by bus?
And what if you have friends/relatives etc on Linacre Road?

If Arriva won't amend their services, will Merseytravel re-route HTL's 159?
It seems only time will tell...Wink

Merseytravel usually let the commercial operators routes settle before they look at filling in gaps where it is socially necessary , you have to remember also that Merseytravel these days are not a bottomless pit of money and that any alterations have to be PVR Neutral .

Not quite always, sort of, as the extended 173 means HTL's PVR for those routes will now be 5 instead of 4, however overall HTL's PVR remains the same (other than for one week) as their route 187 contract ends today, and the extended 173 begins a week Monday!

True though they are less reluctant to set up additional contracts though as they were a few years ago, else Merseytravel may well have just replaced the 183/4 like for like rather than replacing 183 with the extended 173 and not replacing 184 at all.
