Prestige 4059 appeared on the 15 yesterday.
Ex-GNE Prestige 4001 has been fitted with a front LED in-place of its old flip-dot display. It has also been treated to a front-end repaint, complete with front white stripe (as on 4025).

Seeing as these DAF-ALX300s have just been withdrawn from service in Yorkshire after nearly 15 years, I wonder what they will replace in the north east?
I am now more likely to come to Middlesbrough next July rather than Easter. I am due to go away twice in April then not until August or September, so this would spread my breaks from home better. For a personal highlight I have Monday July 15th off work so I would come that weekend. Also, Easter is the weekend the clocks go forward so I would lose an hour of daylight coming at the end of March.

Seemingly they are replacing Prestiges (the oldest of which are the same age as these DAFs) and the two written-off Temsas. Add in three-time fire damaged 4082 (V653 LWT), now written off, plus recently accident-damaged 4719, Redcar are in need of buses.

I imagine they are a quick fix to allow older Prestiges to be withdrawn, before the influx of new buses early in 2013 which may well see the majority of Darts and DAFs withdrawn.

This is the more logical reason.
Assuming the NE Prestiges have less book value than the AYK ALX vehicles, AYK are short of things that can withdraw in lieu of new stock, so take low book value ANE stuff means they can withdraw that instead.
