RE: GHA Group (Bryn Melyn, Vale Travel + Others) - LJ51 DDA - 04/01/2015 01:01

Are these buses affected now? because i seen S908JCC, T289UOX,T115KGP all in Service Yesterday...

and im pretty sure S879SNB is DDA Because it has a Ramp and kneels...could be wrong, but it was new before 2000 anyway.

Anything below 7.5t GVW will (should) be off the road - this will include the Varios (if not DDA anyway) but not Darts or Solos.
DDA regulations cover a hell of a lot of things, not just a ramp and wheelchair bay

this round of DDA covers buses under 7.5t full laden,Darts & Solos are over 7.5t Fully Laden (apart from solo M710SEs,all what were made to DDA anyway),Its next January DDA covers Darts & Solos. In fact next January it covers all single deckers i believe

So am I correct in thinking that Mercedes Varios should no longer be used on public bus services?

As LJ51DDA has already stated, S908 JCC was in service yesterday (on the 95 Melin-y-Wig to Wrexham) - is this a contravention of the DDA regulations or not?

RE: GHA Group (Bryn Melyn, Vale Travel + Others) - tyresmoke - 04/01/2015 15:49

It would all depend whether or not they're DDA, or using another loophole you can have them exempt until 2020.....

My brief glance at the regulations suggests that the relevant 'weight' is 'design weight'. This is determined by the manufacturer and appears on the VIN plate. The design weight will normally be the maximum legal weight that the vehicle should ever become - so includes the weight of the vehicle and the weight of fittings and passengers etc.

basically the weight of the bus after its hit full capacity (not 100% how they calculate it)

Further investigation show that the darts:-
S879 SNB
T112 KGP
T115 KGP
T549 HNH
V7 GHA
V8 GHA
All weigh over 7.5 tonne, so these are not a problem until next January. I'm still find out the weights of the Solo's and give you lads an update as soon as possible!!

RE: GHA Group (Bryn Melyn, Vale Travel + Others) - tyresmoke - 04/01/2015 18:51

Most, if not all, of the Solo's will be over 7.5t

You are correct there sir, I've just found out that all the solo's would be over 7.5 tonne fully laden, meaning of course that the Mercedes Vario's are the only one's affected! Hopefully a few more Solo's will arrive at GHA soon to replace them, Ruthin need N2 GHA, S908 JCC and SIW 8268 replacing!!
