Are Ian Allan in Financial Difficulty? - gilesbus1 - 30/06/2012 21:17 Hi this might be something or nothing Over the last few months there appears to be lots of bus books that where sheduled to be published along with a DVD and none have emerged. I know the Bus and Rail magazines where all sold off to another publisher a few months ago, but what is noticable is adverts for ian Allan books are no longer appearing, can we assetain if its in financial difficulty???? The sale of the magazines is strange as about 5 years ago Ian Allan set up a new print works that was state of the art. So what is going wrong???? Gilesbus1 RE: Are Ian Allan in Financial Difficulty? - Metroline1511 - 30/06/2012 21:31 I wondered why Ian Allan did not include a Review 2011 Supplement in March's Buses magazine. They had included such an annual review each year as a successor to Buses Focus. RE: Are Ian Allan in Financial Difficulty? - wirralbus - 02/07/2012 06:26 Its probably the economy and the publisher that took his magazine titles doesnt want to be lumbered with the books side of the business. Books can be a lucrative business but in hard times its one of the parts of the economy that can go west first . Another speculative thread that promotes an unfounded hypothesis However, the fact is Ian Allan no longer publish 'Buses' magazine (sold along with a portfolio of their other titles to Key Publishing some months ago) may provide some evidence of a significant change of emphasis in Ian Allan ongoiung publishing interests. RE: Are Ian Allan in Financial Difficulty? - mbonwick - 02/07/2012 16:05 I'm not going to comment on the situation of an individual company. Suffice to say that generally there isn't any profit in printed magazines etc - if comapnies want to make money, online/ebooks are the way to go. If you check the results of publishing companies there is ample evidence that tThere is plenty of profit still in the printed media. However, specialist low circulation magazines are always vulnerable during hard economic times |
