Christmas & New Year Services 2017/18 - buses7675 - 06/12/2017 01:58

The full Christmas & New Year guide is now on the Merseytravel website

http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travel-updates/Documents/Merseytravel%20Christmas%20and%20New%20Year%20Transport%20Guide%202017.pdf

Fairly similar to last year, Christmas Day services appear to be identical and all operated by Stagecoach again.

Noticed on Boxing Day quite a few routes have early starts, some services starting around 8am rather than the normal 9-10am, also 47 & X2 both operating on Boxing Day but no service on New Years Day, X2 only operating Liverpool-Southport.

The X2 IS operating between Preston and Southport but Merseytravel in their wisdom have not published the times for that section of route.

Also the 43 is making a comeback!!! And the 46A running from Russell Road instead of High Park - both errors I think somehow. HammerHammer

47 runs boxing day but not New year's day due to no trains running on boxing day, the 43 timetable is an error entry as the 46/46A timetables also appear , also noticed that the trains are running on Boxing day, which hasn't happened for several years

Merseyrail did operate on Boxing Day last year.

The main difference on New Year's Day compared to previous years is that the Maghull Circulars now finish earlier but the South Liverpool Circulars still continue until late - must be part of the contract.

Still no Boxing Day trains on the City Lines when I was under the impression that trains were supposed to be running on this day under this Northern franchise.

A few other points have sprung to mind.

Why do Merseytravel seem quite happy to run the 194/195 on Christmas day but scrapped these services during the bus review in 2016. If they are needed at Christmas, surely they are needed the rest of the year. Also why do Arriva seem quite happy to run the short 35's on Boxing/New Year's Day but don't see the service profitable enough to run on a Sunday daytime.

194/195 both go past whiston hospital and st helens hospital so deemed an hospital service.
The 35 one im not to sure about the reason for that.

The point I was making about the 194/195 was that if it is deemed useful enough on Christmas day, it begs the question as to why it wasn't kept as part of the review. The general public now will probably struggle to remember which way the service goes. As for the 35, as I say I can't understand why they feel it profitable on these days when they don't run the 30 or 33 which run on a normal Sunday daytime.

The Christmas Day 194X/195X route isn't quite the same as the normal 194/195, it doesn't do the part up City Road/Bishop Road going by the route descriptions for the previous two years.

Hopefully 195X will have its regular driver for third consecutive year this time lol
