I don't know about everyone else but EVERY train that I got on had 3 people. Driver, person doing doors and a ticket inspector. The actually exceeded the main objective of the strike. It was very daft.

Not really, it was a variety of Managers covering the Guards position, they are not revenue trained, so they sent a Fare Collector too.

Posted on another forum Northern plan to use the bi-mode 319s on a service between Wigan and Stalybridge via Victoria and a service between Wigan and Alderley Edge via Piccadilly.

Think of it though. It was kind of silly. Especially from a passenger point of view. 1 guard or 1 manager + 1 fare collector. Surely managers should know how to take fares incase needed. That would then mean less cancellations due to 'member of staff being unavailable' the manager could do it as a one off sort of thing.

I assume that you are aware of the managers duties to be able to make such a damming statement.

Guards Standards Managers are supposed to be able to do the guards job in an emergenccy , so they should be fully competent , its maybe route learning that they will need to be up on .

According to a guard the managers had to do a refreshers course

The people doing the fare collecting were not qualified to work trains, simple as.

Trains Managers do work trains on "normal" days to cover for the non availability of Conductors.

Anyone working a train must have the required route and traction knowledge.
