One was also on other routes including the 21 on Wednesday. Its sometimes used as the 5 'dupe' which basically means it runs 5 minutes ahead of the 15.35 number 5 from Altrincham Bus Station purely to pick the school kids up and relieving the pressure on the service. There are already 1530 & 1543 journeys on other services from stand E in Altrincham Interchange, paid for by the relevant Operators, so NW would not be allowed on stand between 1525 & 1548 inclusive with an additional 5 (or 35), so presumably it is starting at the first stop after the Interchange, or is racking up penalties every schoolday. The 15.35 number 5 actually leaves from outside the grammar school, 5 mins ahead of the scheduled number 5... RE: WBT Network Warrington - knutstransport - 20/11/2016 14:30 Are all the contracted services in Warrington operated by Network Warrington or are there any contracts which have been awarded to an operator other than Network Warrington? According to a D&G Bus driver there can be £50 fine imposed if buses arrive too early at Altrincham Interchange. Surly they have to be put out to tender and the lowest bidder wins. NW is run at arms length from the council so surly contracts should be treated in the same way as TFGM or Merseytravel would treat them. The rationale behind the fines would be stop Operators going on stand too early, and blocking another bus from picking up passengers safely and punctually. The only logical argument against arriving considerably early, is that means the bus has probably left the previous timing point early, thus inconveniencing other passengers. Fining drivers/operators for arriving just a couple of minutes early is ridiculous as avoiding the fine would probably mean parking up at the previous stop, thus potentially resulting in a ticket from a Parking Warden, as well as frustrating passengers needing to get to the Interchange for connections or to walk to their final destination (especially workers on flexi-time). With the new 88 times on a good day it is possible to leave a timing point on time and to arrive at the next one more than a minute or two early. Not automatically lowest bidder, there has to be a quality score as well. It's easier for NW to include something like integrated ticketing or running multiple contracts as one through service |
