While it wasn't the train I was referring to, I did notice there was a Preston to Milton Keynes service showing as arriving at Stockport platform 2 (the platform southbound Avanti trains usually use) at 09:29 and not leaving until 09:38.
When you consider:
That service would have shown "Destination: Milton Keynes Central, Next station: Crewe" by every door.
The 09:41 TfW service to Fishguard via Crewe was part cancelled, and that would have normally departed from platform 2.
It arrived just 2 minutes after the scheduled Milton Keynes Central departed.
There's a high chance there would be passengers on platform 2 wanting Crewe or Milton Keynes Central, either because they turned up for the TfW service, or just missed the scheduled Avanti service.
