RE: Arriva North West - Runcorn Depot - Metroline1511 - 04/05/2013 23:13

I went to Runcorn and Liverpool/ Birkenhead today. I thus rode EcoCity 5001 and leather-seated Pulsar 2 3136 among others. I liked both rides, and found the EcoCity ride more enjoyable than expected given that the bus looks a bit unusual.

Quite a few Runcorn Cadets have been refurbished, but 2546, which I rode on route 79c, is not refurbished.

I have a theory why the 79 service to Runcorn is numbered 79c but the 82 Runcorn service 82a. I think the C is for Childwall and the A for Airport or even Aigburth!

Nope! They go way back to when Arriva took MTL over and renumbered the routes in April 2000, a long time ago, when the 79C was first introduced - the 79A went to Lee Park, 79B was run my CMT and went to Belle Vale, the 79D went down London Road, the 79C, initially was an extra service every 10/12 minutes over the 79 Liverpool - Netherley (due to the amount of other competition on the route), and went round the back of Netherley rather than into Netherley (still run by Speke then for about 2 years), then it was transferred to Runcorn and extended to Runcorn combining with its 30 route (which ran Runcorn - Widnes - Hough Green), in full competition with Haltons 14.
The 82A was originally the H25/H26, which became 25/26, then 32 (really the same as the 82 which had about 5 different operators in competion Liverpool - Garston/Speke), then it became the 82A, to fit in with the renumberings so Aigburth Road was numbered all 82* in 2000, the 82B was run by Merseypride, the 82C/82E went as far as Garston, and the 82D went via Dale Street, so thats why it became the 82A as that was the only free letter, initially it didnt serve the airport.

Also to add to that the 82A was an MTL/Arriva Service between Liverpool and Garston before renumbering to 82E. 82A became a Liverpool - Airport service in 2000/1 using branded wright cadets (From speke) before being merged with the 32 (Which at the time was run by Step Darts) to low floor Plaxton Pointer 1's. from MTL.
The 82A then passed to Runcorn when it was merged with the 32, 4 cadets moved to Runcorn on a short-term loan whilst repainting of the north western, MTL and movement of transferring of stock was carried out.

Thank you for your information on the history of routes 79c and 82a Mr T.

It is good that 3136 and 3138 were out today. It seems a pity not to use these leather-seated Pulsar 2s on a Sunday. I doubt that EcoCities are used on Sundays, or in the evenings, as by the time I got back to Runcorn around 6pm route 1 was starting to use Cadets.

Today on the 110 I saw 3137,3138,3140 I'm not sure where 3136 was

Also 3139 has been on the busway circulars all day

Apparently 7612 has been re-instated to cover for buses off the road and apparently 2514 is back on loan as well

As two cadets have gone to St. Helens to be repaired

How many Cadets are still left for P&P now?
