I recall when the 777s were first introduced the idea was North depot was supposed to be the focus for cleaning of the 777 fleet, do you think this is still the case?

Once all the 507s have gone, will North depot only be for the TfWs 230s maintenance.

The washer at North has been out of action for many years, since vandals set fire to it, but it’s in the process of being repaired (this process seems to be going on forever!!)
I seem to remember that washing would would be done at either depot and PHCs at North, but this may have changed in the meantime. However Stadler have a contract to maintain TfW’s 230s there so there will still be quite a lot of units there overnight.

Interesting, thanks for explaining. I noticed there was an ECS move from Kirkdale depot to Birkenhead North depot late Friday afternoon (& was not a 507, no 507s were on Kirkdale) which made me think if some work on the 777 fleet does get done at North depot.

Was 777008 not repaired (following its collision with the buffer stop at Rock Ferry) at Birkenhead North depot in the heavy maintenance shed? I recall seeing it alongside 507001 (when 001 BR livery was revealed to the public, link below). Strange the repair work on 777008 was done at North and not Kirkdale?

You’re correct about 777008 being repaired at North.
The reason was that the repair took many weeks and the space at Kirkdale was at a premium.
It would’ve impacted on the daily stabling on both 777s and 507s
777049 moved over to the Wirral at some point yesterday so maybe that was on the ECS you mentioned

RE: Merseyrail - 508134 - 20/08/2024 15:53

Has 507017 been withdrawn? It has not worked in almost 1 month now and I believe is in the workshop shed at Birkenhead North depot.
Today, there is only 1 507 6 car operating (507001 & 507029). 507010 & 507018 were working as well yesterday however they did not start out this morning, which is quite strange. 507010 has been moved to New Brighton sidings - has 010 finished now as well could anyone inform please?

RE: Merseyrail - 507022 - 20/08/2024 22:12

I seem to remember 2 or 3 out of action last week with motor problems but can’t remember which ones.
If there are any withdrawals it’s only happened since the end of last week, there are 3 scheduled to go in the next few weeks

507016 and 507023 were out of action at the start of last week but returned later in the week.
507007 has been out of action for a good few weeks now, along with 507017.
Perhaps some parts from 017 are being used (swapped) to keep the others going?
Just seemed a bit odd to have only 1 diagram operated by a 507 today since I was on the understanding 2 diagrams were booked to be operated by 507s this week.

507010/018 were moved to North from Kirkdale at 0840 for exams.
507016/023 were spare at Southport
Then for some reason 010 was sent to New Brighton.
There are no withdrawals as of yesterday.

Thanks for the update.

Are exams of the 507 fleet no longer done overnight? I thought that was the idea of having the move from Hunts Cross to North depot at the end of service or is this solely for stabling purposes.

507010 has moved this morning from New Brighton to North depot.
507018 is now paired with 507003 as of Wednesday on the Hunts Cross to Hall Road section.
Perhaps 010's time is up now?

507007 moved ECS this afternoon from North depot to New Brighton wall sidings.

I doubt 017 will return now.

507007 has been out on test last two days

RE: Merseyrail - 507022 - 27/08/2024 15:34

It seems that the days of the 507s may have come to an end, apart from the 507 Finale tour next month. There have been no 507s out since 507001 and 507029 on Sunday, and Merseytravel want them stood down.
Fortunately there have been enough 777s to cover all the diagrams.
