The Class 315s bowed out yesterday following a career lasting 42 years and a day on the lines out of London Liverpool Street. The last four remaining sets (315837/853/856/857) were all in action, with 837 and 856 having the honour of forming the final 315-operated service, the 1804 Liverpool Street - Shenfield. Scores of enthusiasts were there to see off the veteran units.
315856 is earmarked for preservation by the Class 315 Preservation Society and will be based at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway, provided the move is successful this time.
