As it has had a recent repaint and clearly the intention was to keep it in service for a few more years, I suspect that the cost of repair is not economically viable. I'm sure I read somewhere that there have been occasions when a bus has been driven out of the paint shop and scrapped within days. Crazy! Apparently 4104 needs a new engine and few other bits and went to a private contractor to do the work but after being parked up in the contractors premises they decided to cancel the work and park it up. Crazy! 2507 was an example, when it got repainted in 2019, but by February last year it was sent off for scrap due to it's knackered engine, but the chances are that if 2507 lived past lockdown without having a knackered engine then it could've likely been converted into a training bus, yet 2504/5 survive and still work passenger services at Wythenshawe and Speke, respectively. Though, I always wonder why some buses are lucky to get new engines to get a extended lease of life, such as 2493, which got a new engine and differentials before transfer to Green Lane a few months ago despite having a model year of 2004 and on 54 reg. I wonder if the engines for such older buses are still in production today or they take the engines from older buses that are no longer reliable for service? |
