Didnt Network Rail originally have Stone down on a closure list just like most of the other local stations south of Stoke On Trent , but public discontent stopped Stone from being closed down for good.

Closures are nothing to do with Network Rail, except inasmuch as they fail to spend money to enable them to remain open.
I don't believe the stations concerned were ever the subject of closure proposals - I often wonder if because the minor wayside stations had already shut on the WCML, Beeching's team overlooked the others
