A heading to cover subjects other than repaints. EMU 333007 was noted at Leeds on Tuesday named "Alderman J Arthur Godwin, First Lord Mayor of Bradford 1907". This is the first of the class to be named.
Noticed this morning on the 0857 Lime Street - Blackpool, they put a 4 coach set on (150 +156). Very good idea considering it's Friday during the School Holidays and decent weather was forecast. People are always too eager to complain when a train is of a short formation, so some credit where its due.
Just wondering whether the return working was also 4 coaches or whether the unit was required at Blackpool for another service and putting the unit on that service was the most expedient method possible.
This morning I travelled on 142003 (on the 09.48 Lime Street - Stalybridge) and travelled back in time as this unit is complelely unrefurbished (apart from different seat cushion design). So we are talking 23-21 years without any proper internal work. The amazing thing was that it has been repainted into Northern livery - modern on the outside, ancient on the inside. It made me realise what a raw deal Northern and passengers in the areas they serve are getting compared to other parts of the country.
when northern took over the franchise they stated there will be no unit upgrades - i wonder why?? the greater manchester congestion charge promises more trains better trains but northern aint willing to help fund this instead using trains that are older than me!
