.
My understanding was that new 1 and 2 were to be realigned so that 3 and 4 could be extended, but this seems not to have happened.
Thanks Mike
Seems a bit confusing, but then again it's network Fail we are talking about

It'll be confusing either way. To those new to Stockport station it wouldn't make sense why the numbering starts at zero not one or why a rarely used bay platform is 3A when it's completely separate to platform 3. Likewise at Huddersfield there's platform 8 and there's been plans to put in a platform 9 but there's no platform 3 or 7 due to 2 old bay platforms being removed. Even though retention of the old numbers at both Stockport and Huddersfield doesn't confuse passengers used to the stations.
I also found it strange that the old platform 1 was removed when they are wanting to accommodate more trains.

Maybe accommodate the trains over longer platforms? 3x 185 on one platform for example
Viewed the new numbering of the platforms this afternoon 2 - 10 on a short trip out.
Did not have a signal check on the way in coming back although it was off peak, let's
hope it is assign of things to come with all the improvements
Sorry... Platforms are 1-10 getting mixed up again with the old platform 2 now is 1

No Platforn 1 currently.
Having now seen the station on the ground the new platforms one and two now extend to the mouth of the short tunnel and if the old platform one had been retained obviously both it and the new number 1 would have been too short.
What is perhaps surprising is that they didn't choose to relocate the booking office and extend towards the concourse

Relocate the booking office to where Burger King use to be? Thats the only place I can think of where thereād be room if not a little cramped
There are future plans to build a supermarket within the station by reducing the size of the travel centre and building into the staff car park on Lord Nelson street.
The new first class lounge is set to open around the 20th of this month, at which point the temporary Virgin Trains lounge will be dismantled.
The aim is for platforming to be kept reasonably simle now, with majority of Chat Moss line services being kept to platforms 1-5, with Cheshire/Ditton line services being kept to platforms 6-10.
