Couldn't find a topic for these so I thought I'd post it here

Four vehicles of this batch have recently arrived at PVS Barnsley - a shame really as I was a big fan of these and thought they were much better than the Dennis Darts of their age

Some great photos there. I wonder why some (newer) vehicles are dismantled straight away and others are left to rot where they were parked for a decade or more?

Having driven these when they were brand new, I'd agree with you that they were generally more refined than a comparable Dart. However, they could be somewhat unforgiving of driving style. A bit like the F-YTJ Olympians, they could give an excellent ride if you got it just right, but could be decidedly lurchy if you didn't. I found Darts a lot more accommodating in that regard.

As an aside I notice they've got five digit fleet numbers - is this the start of a group-wide numbering scheme?
Not this time, Arriva Scotland started renumbering all their buses into a five digit scheme not long before McGills took over. Some of the X-GGO Dart SLFs also carried these numbers, for example X475 GGO was 44001 under the Scottish renumbering but is now 1301 in the Arriva North East fleet.

They have spent the last 2 years parked up at Thorton of Ashington they were not part of the sale to McGills along with the ex London Darts these all went into service with Arriva NE the Volvo's have aways been shown on there allocation but they were never used,
What happened to the 2 that got left in St Helens?
