Windermere's supposed to be getting 'alternative fueled trains' now as the BCR for revised electrification costs was poor and the Lake District getting World Heritage Status means there are now additional issues with the construction of masts along the line.

Manchester-Rochdale-Leeds is the route with the best BCR that hasn't had electrification confirmed. If that route's done and the short spur from Halifax to Huddersfield then it would provide numerous alternative electrified routes between Manchester and Leeds.
