Hi Guys,

Can you help me. Does anyone know or remember the fleet numbers of the Wirral Laird Street based Volvo Ailsa Buses that where purchased new by MPTE before the take over of Merseybus on D Reg.

I think they where 0064-0077 ish again Im not sure how many they had.

Do you know if these were the last new double deckers prior to D Regulation, or was it the B reg Leyland Atty

Thanks in advance..
0069-0081 A151-163HLV were the last batch of Volvo Ailsa's, new in July 1984.

1070 was new in Sept 84..

Wasn't there two earlier examples 0054 and 0055 if memory serves me right , when they first arrived they had normal destination equipment im sure , not the equipment that was used on 0069 to 0081.
MPTE 0054 (DEM 821Y) and 0055 (DEM 822Y) were the first Volvo Ailsa/Alexander RV deckers.

Thank you very much. I can remember getting on one of these new on the 97 once. I paid 5p for the dog getting a yellow square style ticket and my child saveaway was about 30p. It had a door that opened in a three way fold and the stairs went to the top front right of the bus. It also had brown leather seats. I think it was when it had the old style single line number destination board. Rather than the re arranged seperate number and destination line. I recall it was a green style early dot matrix display that wasnt very visable.. This is one of my earliest bus memories, and i remember getting off at the ld woodside with the lay by on the left facng the ferry, where buses laid over and I also remember the drivers office on the left side of the Ferry.

Sorry for the pre amble
There were also 2 on a 6 month loan from Derby City Transport in 1982 when brand new.
These were 0044/5 STV122/3X and had Marshall bodies.

Great photo.. Top memories
Here is another pic of the same bus lined up for a 98 Ford. Rather than the usual 98 Ford Circle !

I love the way the old atty's had the route number on the back. I used to love changing these over as a kid.. Its hard to think that the atty 1925 behind was also brand new at the time.

I'm pretty sure them original one line digital dests on 0044/45/54/55 used to scroll, so that dest of 0045 on the 98 would have then scrolled....CIRCULAR........98 FORD.........CIRCULAR......
